Nokia N96

I'm a bit disappointed with this phone. It does have the FP2 update, but why does Nokia has to use the BL-5F battery (in N95-1) instead with a bigger capacity like on the N95 8GB's or even better? Good points are the 16GB internal memory, micro sd card slot, DVB-H TV broadcast receiver and the xenon flash (if they decide to include it). We'll find out if the slider is fixed on this one as many have had issues with loose slider on the N95 phones. I don't think this will be my upgrade though but we'll see.

Nike+ SportBand Coming Soon

There's been a lot of talk lately about a pending release of Nike's SportsBand fitness device, the latest being a report from German site Mac Life that it's coming in April.

The wrist device, which looks pretty much like a digital watch, is designed to work similar to the Nike + iPod Sports Kit, sans the media player. In other words, it allows runners to track their exercise routines even if they don't own an iPod.

In addition to time display, the SportsBand can collect data on speed, distance, elapsed time, and calories. According to the Mac Life report, it's expected in Europe next month at a retail price of 59.95 euros (about $94.68).

Main reasons for Caller ID not to work

1. Duplicate entries in contacts - by FAR the most common cause and unfortunately, the most awkward one to fix.
If the phone finds the same number against more than one name, it doesn't know which to use so, perfectly sensibly, it defaults to showing the number.
The only way to fix this is to remove duplicates from your contacts. Best way to do this would probably be in Outlook on the PC, but assuming you can't do that, then you have to find the numbers that aren't working a use the LATEST version of the Nokia Search tool to find the duplicate entries:
NOTE: when you search, use PART of the number to avoid problems with formatting: searching for +441234567890 will NOT find +44 123 456 7890 whereas searching for 789 would.

2. Using your international dial code instead of '+'
Not sure if this applies to all phones, but if you store your number using your county's international dial code (eg: 004412345678990 - WRONG) instead of the '+' sign (+4412345678990 - RIGHT), it can cause problems.

3. "(0)" area code prefixes
Only a problem if you synch with MS Outlook. When you specify a country in MS Outlook, it will insert "(0)" into your phone number after the country code - while somewhere in Redmond, Bill Gates cackles - so +4412345678990 becomes +44 (0) 12345678990.
You need to remove the (0).

4. 9 and 10 digit numbers
There has been one report of problems with 9 and 10 digit numbers where one size doesn't work with SMS and the other with calls.
I think you know what you should resort to doing if still cant sort out the problem..re-update fw!

Deleting Themes in N95 that don't show in App Manager

You need to hook up your N95 to your PC via the USB lead and access the data transfer mode, and you need to make sure your file explorer can view hidden folders.

You'll find the theme files in a folder named 'Private', in this folder are lots of other folders.

Go to the folder named '10207114' and then enter the folder inside called 'Import'In here are all the themes on your sd card.

You have to open every folder and then look in the skn folder to find the name of the theme as the folders are named by numbers and not the theme itself, if the PC doesn't allow you to open the file then choose to open it with Notepad, then scroll across until you see the name of the theme and usually it'll say the creator's name too.

Once you know it's the theme you want to delete then you have to delete the whole folder including the mbm, mif, ini and skn folders.

Job done.

N95 Codes - Shortcuts - Tips

N95 Codes
*#06# ................. IMEI number (International Mobile Equipment Identity)
*#0000# ............ Firmware version and date, Phone Model and Operator Variant
*#92702689# .... Life timer (W A R 0 A N T Y) - Total time your phone has spent sending and receiving calls.
*#62209526# .... Wireless MAC Address (M A C _ W L A N)
*#2820# ............. Bluetooth MAC address (B T A 0?)

FORMATTING CODES
*#7370# .......... Format phone...(Hard-Reset)
*#7780# .......... Factory Reset
Note:
Format phone restores phone to as if it was out of the box. Retains firmware version and operator Variant changes but wipes all applications you have installed. Does not format the memory card so any apps on there may reinstall once powered back up again.

Factory Reset resets all settings to defaults but keeps any applications you have installed and photos etc. Both need the Security code, which, by default, is 12345.

Another way to format some symbian phones: Power off phone. Press and hold Green, * and 3 and keep them held whilst powering on and for a few seconds after, if kept pressed this formats without asking for Security Code confirmation.

Shortcuts
N95 picture viewer:
2 – Scroll up (when zoomed)
4 – Scroll left (when zoomed)
5 – Zoom in (12.5%/25%/50%)
6 – Scroll right (when zoomed)
8 – Scroll down (when zoomed)
0 – Zoom out

Press the Power button briefly to bring up the list of profiles to select one.

Press and hold (in Standby):
Right selection key: Voice commands
Multimedia Key: Now Playing
1: Voicemail
2-9: shortcuts to address book (you need to set these up first)
0: Web
#: Switches between General and Silent modes - not supported by all Operator Variants (when composing messages will switch between character and number input when held down)

Tips:
If your operator does not support normal SMS delivery receipts (like UK O2) put *0# at the beginning of a text message to get a receipt (the recipient will not see it)

12# (etc) in standby will dial the number held in location 12 on your SIM card address book.

When texting using T9 predictive text you can generate smileys by pressing the 1 key twice or three times and modify the smiley using the * key:

Pressing 1 twice :) then * :( > ;) > :* > .. > .. and so on
Pressing 1 three times :-) > :-( > ;-) > :-* > ... and so on.

The 0 key gives you a space, then 0, then a carriage return.

To mark items in a list, for deletion/moving/copying/sending etc., hold down the edit (pencil) button and scroll up or down using the D-Pad to tick the items in quick succession.

To see the time when the keypad is locked without unlocking, just press and release the power button.

You can use * when searching for contacts. D*n brings up Daniel and Dennis.

Touchless Control Interface for Nokia N95

iGo Stowaway® Ultra-Slim Bluetooth® Keyboard

More pictures: FlirkR - dayene00 (iGo Stowaway® Ultra-Slim Bluetooth® Keyboard set)

Dual Sim Card

Tried this on both N95 and it worked.

Dual Sim Card menu automatically pops up. When switching, give you phone a minute to load the dual sim card menu to prevent from hanging. Give it time to switch networks.

Bad thing is, you'll have a little gap on your battery cover. I can close both of my N95 but make sure you support each fixing tags while pushing it in to close the battery cover to prevent it from snapping.

Sony Ericsson W960i

I didn't like phone as much as the N95... maybe because i didn't pay attention to it because i was busy with the N95. I like the touchscreen and the transfer rate is fast using mass storage unlike the N95-2 but there's no autoflash on the camera.

Here it is with the crystal case.

Easy Fix For The N95-2's Lens Cover

It's not a hardware fix but it will at least protect your camera lens and others to save you from ending up paying more later on if your lens gets scratched.
You can but it from Martinfields.com. 1 pack at $16.99 and twin pack at $32.99.

N95-2 Crystal Case

Cheapest case you can get for your N95-2. Never get the crystal case for the N95-1 because they'll just crack. Crystal cases for N95-2 (at least the one i got) are more durable and thicker so they don't crack. You can get them cheap from ebay starting at $3 shipped but you have to wait at least a week because they're shipped from Hong Kong. I'm still using mine till now so i'm very happy with it.

Nokia N95-1 and N95-2

Nokia N95 8GB (N95-2)

I like this phone better than the N95-1 for so my many reasons. Only bad about it... it doesn't have a lens cover and removable memory card causing the slow transfer rate. It's heavier than the N95-1 but that doesn't bother me because performance of the phone is more important to me. Having 120MB of RAM is more than enough to have all your apps opened at the same time. The larger screen is a major factor, too...there's a big difference between the two when compared side by side. Battery life is also great... i now run IM+ all the time on it. There's also a cover on the screen and it prevents damage to the lcd.

Nokia N95 OEM Leather Case

This case originally came with the N95 Asia versions. Some packages came with this but i had to get mine off from ebay. Some complaints on residue left on the phone and some marks but mine doesn't do that. The case is ok but the flap is annoying. I used it a couple of times only... i can't stand the flip cover.

iPod Nano 8GB Black (3rd Gen) & Nike + iPod Sport Kit

Upgrade from my old nano. I don't use it anymore because i have a corrupted file in iTunes and i'm not about to check every single song with 4000 files on there. :D i'll wait for the next firmware update if it fixes it...if not, i have to rebuild my library again. :(

Bose In-Ear Headphone

You can't go wrong with Bose.... :D

Nokia N95 (N95-1)

At last, we're on N95 now... got this on 5/7/07. This one had a bluetooth issue...phone and bluetooth headset connection kept dropping so i had to get a replacement from Nokia. Learning from the N80, i now made sure the device i got had a US warranty. Before leaving the store i checked its IMEI on Nokia's warranty verification to make sure it's covered. I wanted to get the sand color but it wasn't avaible with US warranty yet so i settled with the plum. It's an expensive phone to be having problems and sending it overseas for repair.
Well, my misery didn't end when i send it out for repair. I waited for two weeks (as their turn around time) and my phone's repair status was still pending. I called them up to check and they said i have to wait another week...another week passed and the status was still the same...called them again and this time they have told me that the phone is unrepairable and they have to wait for their shipment for my replacement. I asked how long it's going to take and they said call again in a week... so here i am again calling after a week and they said they don't know when they're getting the shipment and i have to wait longer...so as any normal person, you'd be mad already, right? But i'm abnormal at times and i just started screaming and cursing telling them that i bought an expensive phone with the worst support service ever! I asked them, why can't they send a phone to a customer that already paid since it's available from their website... but they said it has to come from the repair center. It was just horrible... 6 weeks of waiting and i can't tell the rest anymore... :D I'm just glad it's over and i'm happy with the phone now.

Nintendo Wii

Ah, the Wii... sold out in stores and everybody is selling it and jacking up the price. :D I didn't get mine on its launch date either but i didn't pay extra. I got it on 11/20/06 :D I only enjoyed playing with wii sports and i thought my bro will use it but he ended up playing WOW (World of Warcraft) so it had to go. It had four wiimotes, two nunchucks, one controller, stand, and even the bad but it was just collecting dust because i wouldn't want to play alone in the basement. :D

TomTom One

I love TomTom... never leave home without it. I found out about TomTom from my SE P910i because i used it on the phone. I wanted to get the US and Canada maps so i decided to get the navigator itself. TomTom One doesn't have those features for on-screen call or ipod compatibility, etc. that other TomTom products but i wanted to get one that's not bulky and easy to carry from one car to another. TomTom One XL is out but i'm not in need for an upgrade yet... this device is still serving me well. TomTom is user-friendly, you won't even need to read the manual. :D Only bad thing is when i'm in New York the signal gets lost and it just doesn't work that well in areas with tall buildings. I haven't tried other navigators so i can't compare it. I highly recommend TomTom though... most of my friends have it and so as my parents. :)

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-N2

An upgrade from DSN-N1. No noticeable change on the hardware... major difference is the ISO on N2. It still doesn't take good pictures on dark places or maybe it's just me... i'm not into photography that's why i got the cameras for the touchscreen. :D

iPod Nano 8GB Black (2nd Gen)

I got this on 10/9/06 as a replacement for my iPod 60GB (5th gen) because it was beginning to seem big to carry after a while specially when i 'tried' to go jogging. :D I only put an invisible shield on it and a clip from extreme mac and it was all set.

Tickle Me Elmo T.M.X. 10th Anniversary Edition

On 2006 christmas holiday, everybody wanted this toy... i'm sure you guys remember. I heard this over at Z100 that Tickle Me Elmo will out at that day but i didn't go to Toys R Us to get it because i never like sesame street when i was a kid. lol. The week after i saw these on ebay with a marked up price tag selling ridiculously over $150 when the original price was only $39! So silly me, i had to get one too. lol. I got two of them (not bought at retail price) and i tried one of them. It was funny at first but it got annoying and boring... seeing some toy laughing and rolling around. So, sold the opened one and i still have the other one sealed in our basement. :D

Nintendo DS Lite and DS Game Library

I have over 50 games for DS Lite and i'm not going to list all of them. I collect all the Mario related games but i don't play them either. :D I have the scrabble game that's hard to find and also final fantasy that's still sealed. :) Everything comes with its original case and manuals. Actually i need to get rid some of them now. :) Anybody interested of buying them? :D

Onimusha Games

I also got these games just because... LOL. I have no idea what the game is all about...never played it and i don't want my bro to open them up. :D

Final Fantasy Game Collection

My brother got me into collecting games and he said Final Fantasy would be a nice one... so there you go...
FF Origins (1 & 2)* with Strategy Guide
FF Chronicles (4 & Chrono Trigger)* with Strategy Guide
FF Anthology (5 & 6)* with Strategy Guide
FF Tactics with Strategy Guide
FF VII with Survival Guide & Strategy Guide*
FF VIII* with Strategy Guide
FF IX* with Strategy Guide*
FF X* with Strategy Guide*
FF X-2* with Strategy Guide*
FF VII: Dirge of Cerberus* with Strategy Guide*
FF XII: Collector's Edition
* sealed...the rest are in mint condition. Some guides are not in the picture.
I need to update these as well....

Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2

Like i said, i don't play games... so most of my game collections are sealed and comes with guides. I'm not about to take them out so i'll update the pictures when i'm done with all these. My brother likes this game and it is indeed a very nice game... but i just like watching him play. :D

Playstation 2 Slim

I only got this to serve as a dvd player because i don't play games...i only have a wireless controller and a remote. :) I already sold this though because i rearranged my room, put the PC near the tv to use it as my dvd player now and bought a pc to tv adapter.

Sony Vaio® VGN SZ230P/B (SZ Series)

I got this a while back in 7/06 after giving up on the UMPC and it felt much better. :D I just upgraded its ram to 2MB max last week so it's running better now, too. The screen is still pretty small (13.3") but i don't to be bringing a big laptop since i use my PC most of the time anyway. Before the warranty was over (i only got the 1yr manufacturer's warranty), i sent this out for repair because there were dust inside the screen... i love sony's customer service, they send you a prepaid box for overnight shipping... but when it came back, there were still some dust left so i had to send it back again until it was all fixed. A year gone by and i haven't used it much, i opened it and i hear something like a screw or a small metal under the keyboard. I didn't touch it until i decided to upgrade its ram so i opened it up... and as expected, they left a friggin' screw inside! Good thing it didn't do any damage inside as it was rattling everytime i use it. I didn't bother calling them up anymore... as long as everything still works, i'm ok with it. :)
